This class covers theoretical mechanisms for distribution and marketing of food and agricultural products and issues and problems related to food marketing.

NRD 553 Advanced International Food Policy [3]

Impacts on food and fiber industry by changes of international commerce negotiations as well as effects of general economy by changes of food and agricultural policies are analyzed.

Studies on the application of finance theories and empirical analyses to investment, risk management, capital asset pricing and asset valuation.

This course is aimed to analyze health care market by applying microeconomic theory. The main contents are concerned with demand and supply side of health care markets and with investigating effectiveness of health policy.

This course studies not only the activities and impact of technological progress to economic prosperity, but also the role of policy regarding technological advancement.

NRD 606 International Commerce Negotiation [3]

Studies on economic theories on international commerce negotiations and various cases on international commerce and trade negotiations in the WTO, APEC and free trade negotiations.

Studies on changes of international financial market, multinational financial management, and open macroeconomic topics such as exchange rate, balance of payment and macroeconomic equilibrium under open economy.

NRD 622 Economics of Aging [3]

This course aims to investigate the economic impact of population ageing issues. During semester, the ageing issues would be deeply discussed in a solid way of using analytic tools based on graduate level of micro and macro economic theories. Furthermore the relevant policies for keeping sustainable development regarding ageing issue would also be explored.

NRD 623 Applied Microeconometrics [3]

The purpose is to develop the concepts needed to study empirical problems in microeconomics using econometric methods. The focus is on developing a conceptual basis for understanding how data, econometric methodology and assumptions combine to produce statistical inference. Special focus will be given to both cross-section and panel-data methods to control for endogenous regressors and selection bias.

NRD 625 Public Economics [3]

The aim of the course is to examine the foundations of public economics and understand the application of them in applied economic research. Public economics analyzes the impact of public policy on the allocation of resources and the distribution of income in the economy. It addresses various market imperfections and failures as a justification for public action, and analyzes how government policies can improve market outcomes.

NRD 626 Economics of Food Safety [3]

This course will cover topics related to risk preferences, asymmetric information, and uncertainty in consumer food choice, with an emphasis on economics of food safety. Attention will also be paid to concepts and experimental methods used in order to gain insight into the consumers’ preference and attitudes towards safety of foods (hypothetical surveys and choice experiment).

NRD 631 Natural Resource Economics [3]

This course studies economic issues on depletable resource, new and renewable resource, sustainability, bioeconomics and exotic disease. Optimal rules for managing these resources and inter-generational efficiency/equity problems will be studied.

NRD 662 Topics in Commodity Trade Theory [3]

This class teaches advanced theories of international trade and analytical tools for agricultural and food trade policy. Issues and problems for empirical analysis will be covered through seminars.

NRD 671 Applied Production Economics [3]

The course covers the theoretical and practical applications of production economics. With a focus on food and energy production, this course helps graduate students understand production economics and conduct empirical research with rigorous analytical and econometric methods. This course also deals with social and environmental problems related to production activities to achieve sustainable production systems.

NRD 672 Sustainable Development [3]

The course deals with the theoretical and empirical applications of food and resource economics to sustainable development. With a focus on the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, this course helps graduate students understand the concept of sustainability and address the problems associated with agriculture, food, resource, environment and health to achieve sustainable development.

Theories and models of industrial development process. Transformation of agriculture society to modernization economy will be discussed.

This course surveyes how the economic life is affected as information is emphasized and how investment should be made to attain so called 'advanced information-oriented society' which is composed of individual information investment in the perspective of national economy.

NRD 753 Industrial Organization Analysis in Food System [3]

Market structure, conduct and performance in firms and cooperatives and public policies related to above issues in food and fiber industry are analyzed theoretically, empirically, and institutionally.

Economic theories of consumer decision making processes and methods and tools for empirical analysis.

NRD 762 Commodity Futures and Options Markets [3]

This class teaches advanced theories for commodity futures and options trades. The principle of hedging with derivatives and functions of the futures and options markets as an alternative to agricultural policies are covered.

NRD 802 Seminar in Resource Economics [3]

This seminar aims to deepen understanding resource economic issues and to facilitate analytical capacity so as to solve the problems that cover optimal exploitation of fossil fuels, energy security, bioinvasion and renewable energy investment.

NRD 803 Seminar in Applied Econometrics [3]

The aim of this seminar course is to provide econometric methods and research methodology for graduate students to persue independent research in the areas of applied economics. The focus of this course is on practical research design and its application. After taking the course, students should be able to conduct high-quality empirical research using econometric tools.
